Hydro-Québec Standard E.12-07 – Guide to Solar and Battery Connections in Quebec
Hydro-Québec's E.12-07 standard establishes the requirements applicable to the connection to the Quebec electrical distribution network of decentralized production facilities of 100 kW and less using certified inverters.
This document constitutes the official application guide for this standard. Published on December 17, 2025, it specifies the steps to follow to obtain a compliant connection authorization, as well as the technical requirements related to equipment certifications, single-line diagrams, and inverter protection settings.
This guide is part of the self-generation of electricity programs in Quebec and is aimed primarily at master electricians, solar installers, engineers, building professionals and project managers wishing to connect an installation to the Hydro-Québec network in compliance with the requirements in force.
The E.12-07 standard constitutes the reference framework used by Hydro-Québec to assess the conformity of self-generation projects connected to its low-voltage distribution network.
Scope of application in Quebec
Standard E.12-07 applies to installations located within the territory served by Hydro-Québec, including in particular:
- grid-connected photovoltaic solar installations;
- battery energy storage systems;
- hybrid systems combining solar, batteries and grid;
- backup power systems using certified inverters;
- some bidirectional charging stations for electric vehicles.
It primarily concerns residential, commercial, and institutional installations connected to Hydro-Québec's low-voltage network. Any installation covered by this scope must have a connection authorization request submitted to Hydro-Québec before it can be put into service.
